Mozambique-born Queiroz was Alex Ferguson's assistant manager at English club Manchester United, where he has enjoyed two spells. He won several awards as a coach in junior levels, and was fairly successful at senior and club levels, mainly as Ferguson's assistant manager. He is considered the discoverer of the Portuguese "golden Generation" in the early 1990s, which most prominently include Luís Figo and Rui Costa.
