National badminton men's singles 2015 champion Nicholas Bonkowsky is the lone representative at this year's Pan American Games for the sport of badminton.
The Pan Am Games are currently underway in Toronto, Canada and the discipline of badminton is being held from today until Thursday. Bonkowsky hits the court today at 12.30 pm. Bonkowsky regularly plays on the international badminton circuit, however, it is his first time representing T&T at an Olympic event. He stated that he was very excited about this opportunity and wanted nothing but to make T&T proud of his performance."
Bonkowsky is being accompanied by manager and former top national badminton athlete Ronald Clarke. Clarke has also represented the country at the Pan American level as well as at the Commonwealth Games in the past and has most recently managed the 2014 national team at the Central American and Caribbean Games (CAC) in Vera Cruz, Mexico.
The local badminton association is also being represented at the games, as the T&T Badminton Association Club Caucus representative and board member Wendell La Bastide, is the Assistant Chef de Mission for the T&T delegation at the Pan Am Games.
