National cricketer Stephen Katwaroo has promised to give his best while at the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) High Performance Centre (HPC) in Barbados.
The promising wicketkeeper/batsman left last Friday for Barbados, where he will spend the next six months fine-tuning his skills at the HPC. His relatives kept a farewell fuction for him at St Margaret's in Claxton Bay.
Fazil Jahoor and Maureen Jahoor who saw the potential in Katwaroo at a very young age and wanted to assist him in realising his potential took him in and has supported him with his cricket for many years.
On Thursday night, they held a function at their home and present was chairman of the national selection panel Dudnath Ramkessoon, West Indies Cricket Board director Baldath Mahabir and under-19 manager and selector Roland Sampath.
During his address at the function Katwaroo said: "I want to thank all those who have assisted me during the past and continue to assist me. I have a great chance to improve my game by going to the HPC and I promise to make the best out of the opportunity.
"I want to especially thank the Jahoor family, who has made me a part of them and who through thick and thin has been by my side, giving all the support that one could ask for. I am really lucky to have two families and I thank God for all he has given me.
"I will always strive to be humble and grounded and remember that hard work is the way forward. My goal is to make the West Indies cricket team and I am going to work very hard at my game to give myself an opportunity to make that grade."
Sampath said he was very impressed with Katwaroo ever since he came into the national set-up. "This young man is a very disciplined young man and one who works very hard at his game. I have noticed him for quite a while and one thing I am sure about is his commitment and dedication to the job at hand. With that attitude he is going to reach places and make this country very proud indeed."
Katwaroo will be joined at the HPC by fellow nationals Adrian Barath and Akeil Hosein.
