An accident yesterday in Macoya has left a young mother of two dead. Sabrina Rampersad, 27, of Warren Road, Cunupia died around 11.30 am while attempting to drive across the Macoya intersection along the Priority Bus Route (PBR). A female relative who was in the car with Rampersad had to be rushed to hospital. Reports state Rampersad's motor car collided with a PTSC bus which was heading west along the PBR. It is alleged that Rampersad attempted to cross from north to south of the intersection, just as the light changed to red, when she slammed into the bus.
The jaws of life had to be used by fire officers to free Rampersad from the wreckage. Rampersad was the mother of two boys-five-year-old-Satesh and seven-year-old Sachin. Meanwhile, officer in charge of Mobile Traffic, Assistant Commissioner Dwayne Richards, who was also at the scene, urged motorists to exercise extreme caution on the nation's roads. PTSC chairman Devant Maharaj who showed up at the scene has launched an investigation into the accident. Maharaj expressed condolences to Rampersad's family.
