Despite the hiccups and protocol faux pas at the funeral of the late Sir Ellis Clarke, his family is pleased with the send off for this country's first President. In an interview with Sunday Guardian yesterday, Clarke's son, Peter, said the family wanted to dwell only on the positive as they attempt to find closure.
The late Clarke was buried at the Lapeyrouse Cemetery in Port-of-Spain on Friday following a service at the National Academy for the Performing Arts."Yes, there were some hiccups but I prefer to dwell on the positive rather than the negative. The family was really touched by the hundreds that lined the streets to bid Daddy goodbye-this was because he really touched many lives. For this we are grateful to all who supported us. I prefer to remember the positive," Clarke said.
In his memory, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar announced that Government agreed to endow the Sir Ellis Clarke Chair in Commonwealth, Parliamentary and Constitutional Studies at the University of the West Indies.
