Sacked deputy programme manager of the Unemployment Relief Programme (URP) Unanan Persad, through his attorney, has called on the Ministry of Labour and Small and Micro Enterprise Development to reinstate him immediately or face legal action.
In a hand delivered letter addressed to the ministry's permanent secretary, Persad's attorney Kevin Ratiram said his client's employment was terminated in breach of rules of natural justice. He advised that failure to get a response in 14 days would result in legal action being initiated. The former URP manager was fired on November 15 during the ministry's investigation into the termination of managers and appointment of successors without approval by the permanent secretary.
Ratiram, in the letter, claimed the permanent secretary was guilty of, among other things, failing to inform Persad of whether or not there were allegations of impropriety or abuse of office against him, failing to give him an opportunity to defend himself and failing to inform him of the reason for the termination of his employment.
