The 17-year-old, of Real Street, San Juan, pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before Magistrate Gail Gonzales in the Eleventh Court. Gonzales adjourned the sentencing to consider the plea in mitigation offered by attorney Nicole Basraj.
It was only Monday that 18-year-old Kenrick Telesford was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment for receiving the stolen laptop. The computer, which is part of the Ministry of Education's grant to students who successfully passed the Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA), was stolen from a student on November 4. The student, 12, from the Barataria Secondary School was walking along Bissessar Street, off El Soccoro Road, when the accused unzipped his laptop bag and took the laptop.
Yesterday, Gonzales was taken by surprise as she was about to read the charge to the accused. Basraj said her client had accepted that he had done an irresponsible act and asked for leniency for him. The teen was granted bail in the sum of $25,000 with a surety and to be approved by the Clerk if the Peace. He will be sentenced for the crime on January 7. Sgt Joseph Logan prosecuted.
