Reigning queen of the first-ever Ms Plus Intercontinental Trinidad and Tobago pageant, 2021’s Cara Samlalsingh, will be hosting her first charity event named Charity Fundraiser, on January 28 from 11.30 am to 6 pm at Café Rustique.
Proceeds are to benefit the RWB Aqua Stars Swim Club’s pool restoration, and to also enable Samlalsingh’s successful participation in the final leg of competition in Houston, Texas, from March 8-15 of this year.
The swim club is working towards obtaining new equipment to efficiently resume and sustain its programmes, while Samlalsingh is in pursuit of travel expenses and meeting for the competition. Both costs total $60,000.
Samlalsingh was sashed on November 27, 2021, and is scheduled to depart T&T on March 8, where she will then vie for the coveted crown on March 13 against international countries also vying for either one of two titles – Ms Plus Intercontinental Overall Queen or Ms Plus Intercontinental Humanitarian Ambassador Queen.
Ms Plus Intercontinental was borne out of the Miss Plus World Trinidad and Tobago, of which Samlalsingh emerged queen. The Pageant Director is former Ms Plus Intercontinental Humanitarian Ambassador Queen for 2019 in the Miss World Pageant, Adina Pollard-Simon.
The pageant has two divisions – Miss Plus World Trinidad and Tobago that caters to ages 18 to 35, and Ms Plus Intercontinental, 36 and older.
Following her win in the local leg, the queen advances to participate in the international competitions, Ms Plus Intercontinental Overall and the Ms Plus Intercontinental Humanitarian Ambassador, but only one queen each wins either thus, four queens are crowned that night.
“I want to make T&T extremely proud! I exude confidence in myself, as being plus-sized and extremely healthy only add to my beauty inside-out. My aim is to return home with a series of crowns from varied categories, hence the reason why every aspect of what I do, I strive for exemplariness,” Samlalsingh said.
