Recently we read about the number of derelict vessels that have been abandoned in the Gulf, and we the taxpayers were left to foot the bill to clean up such litter. Where was the EMA in this? Could not the Government seek and obtain redress for costs and damages to the environment from the vessel owners and their respective insurances? Now, it would appear that this trend of corporate littering seems to have spread to vehicles on the road. Take a look at the photo above.
Five weeks ago this vehicle ran off the road and landed smack in the middle of the river in La Pastora, Lopinot. To date, no attempt has been made to remove it from a main water course. Surely a claim has been made by now to the insurance. The question now is, has the insurance company shown any concern with regard to the environment?
Failing such, on behalf of the people of Lopinot, I take this opportunity to request that the litter wardens or whoever wants to do his job, to hold the owner and his insurance responsible for this state of affairs. This being achieved, we can now consider what is the real function of the EMA in this country?
