Singing Kaiso Alive, six-year-old Aaron Duncan copped the title of Primary School Junior Monarch when the Chaguanas Carnival Committee staged the finals of the competition at the Centre Pointe Mall, Chaguanas. Duncan, a pupil of Newtown Boys' RC School, has several titles under his belt, including 2011 Junior Calypso Monarch.
He came up against a field of 12 competitors. Placing second and third, respectively, were Merlina Smith, with her rendition of Why, and Njanela Regis who sang Ah Want One. The secondary school title went to Raeann Guerra of San Juan South Secondary School, singing Our Mother's Cry.
Placing second was Tiffany Paul with Still Love the Child. Christian Kalpi, who won the title last year, placed third with Time to Stop. The Primary School Monarch won a prize of $3,000, while the secondary school champ won $5,000. Chaguanas Mayor Orlando Nagessar commended the young people for coming from all parts of Trinidad to participate in the competition.
