RHONDOR DOWLAT-ROSTANT
The decomposing body of a 75-year-old was discovered in his house at Paradise Gardens in Tacarigua, on Monday at about 7:05 pm.
The deceased has been identified as Anthony Alexis.
Police said they were alerted by neighbours of a foul stench emanating from Alexis' house.
Police said a neighbour said she last saw Alexis, who lives alone, some two or three days ago.
A party of police officers with the assistance of the Fire Service had to cut the lock on the front burglar proof gate to gain entry through the front door, which was unlocked but closed.
On entering, the officers reportedly observed a pool of blood on the living room floor, which appeared to have seeped through the ceiling. The officers proceeded upstairs to a bedroom located on the southern side, where they observed the deceased lying on his belly on the floor.
Police said Anthony Alexis’ body bore wounds to the forehead and mouth.
A relative told police that Alexis was ailing from diabetes.
An autopsy is expected to be conducted at the Forensic Science Centre to determine the actual cause of death.
