A Santa Cruz man was killed on Wednesday night, even as police officials in the Port-of-Spain Division met with residents from Belmont and environs to hear first-hand about the challenges they were currently facing and how the authorities could assist.
The victim was identified as Rahim Cruickshank, of
Jigga Hill or Blackford Street, Cantaro Village, Upper Santa Cruz.
Cruickshank was reportedly liming with two other persons at Bass Street, Jigga Hill, around 7.45 pm, when a white wagon with four occupants stopped.
It was alleged three men got out and that two of them were armed with rifles and the other with a pistol. The men opened fire on the group.
As Cruickshank fell to the ground and the others ran off, the suspects escaped in the waiting vehicle.
Cruickshank was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, where he succumbed to his injuries around 8.20 pm.
A total of 14 5.56 spent shell casings, 24 9mm spent shell casings and one gold ring were recovered at the scene of the killing, which lawmen have labelled as gang-related.
