Last Friday, the Northern Region of Pan Trinbago hosted Pan Night at the bpTT Renegades Pan Theatre, on Charlotte Street, Port-of-Spain, attracting a large turnout. In the spotlight, offering top class music were Witco Desperadoes, Phase II Pan Groove, PCS Silver Stars, T&T Defence Force Steel Orchestra, Brother Resistance and host Renegades. It was obvious that each band was meticulous with its repertoire and this was most evident in Phase II Pan groove's interpretation of John Lennon's immortal Imagine.
Frontline pannist Franklyn Olliviere said band leader Len "Boogsie" Sharpe had not only updated the band's repertoire, but embarked on a recruitment drive to bring young musicians into the fold of the popular Woodbrook band. Pan is again the limelight on Sunday when Pan Trinbago continues the fourth in its Pan In D Countryside series, held in collaboration with the Tourism Development Company (TDC). The event will be held at the Toco Regional Complex, Cemetery Street, Toco, from 2 pm and orchestras billed to perform include CAL Invaders, Tokyo, T&TEC Tropical Angel Harps, Southern Marines Steelband Foundation, Melodians and Toco band, Pan Stereonettes.
