Plipdeco pulled off an astonishing super over victory on Wednesday in a low scoring thriller against Super Industrial Services Limited as the quarterfinal leg of the SIS Industrial Cricket League bowled off at the Plipdeco Ground.SIS would rue their decision to bat first after winning the toss as Quesi Griffith had Dinesh Rambajhan comprehensively bowled in the second ball of the inning and fellow opener Roger Williams went caught off the bowling of Kenya Leacock, going for a big hit to the longest boundary on the field.
That set the tone for the rest of the innings as wickets fell consistently in every over to Plipdeco's precision bowling. After five overs, SIS managed just 19 runs and knew they were in trouble with five wickets down. Shival Sakawat hit the lone six of the innings before he was also bowled by Griffith. SIS was eventually bowled out for 28 runs just inside 9 overs. Anthony Ramroop was Plipdeco's best bowler, ending on figures of 2 for 3 in his only over while Kenya Leacock (2/5) and Z. Mohammed (2/5) also bowled well to restrict SIS to such a low total.
Plipdeco's confidence was shaken early on when Ramroop was beaten by a delivery from Roger Williams that trickled on to the stumps in the third over after Leacock was caught for just one. Plipdeco went from 1 for 10 in the second over to 4 for 12 in the fourth over as SIS really showed their mettle in defending their low score. It took Plipdeco three overs to score ten runs without a wicket falling before A. Mohammed got the breakthrough. Star batsman Antonio Aziz was caught for a top score of six with the score on twenty two in the eighth over and Plipdeco's heart sunk when an all too familiar crumble followed. Three more wickets fell with the addition of just one run and Plipdeco were reeling at 23 for 8 after nine overs.
The tension was thick and anticipation high as SIS captain Dianand Mahase took on the responsibility of defending six runs in the last over. After the first ball went for no run, one could sense the resolve of the batsmen at the wicket to run at anything and so they did. They managed five singles in the following five balls that saw the innings end with scores tied at 28 after ten overs.Plipdeco showed their poise in the resulting super over as SIS was only able to take three runs off Aziz's tight bowling. In Plipdeco's turn at the crease Aziz crushed any hope SIS had of defending their three runs, blasting a six in the very first ball to complete a nail biting victory. Plipdeco will now play three time champs T&TEC in a mouthwatering semifinal fixture on Friday while underdogs Nu Iron, fresh off an impressive victory over powerhouse PCS Nitrogen, will have to negotiate a tricky AUM outfit in the second semifinal on Monday.
