West Indies captain Denesh Ramdin has taken over the reigns of the Guyana Amazon Warriors for the upcoming Caribbean Premier League T20 tournament.According to information coming out of the Warriors set-up, Ramdin will replace the Guyanese Ramnaresh Sarwan, who took them to the runner-up spot in the inaugural campaign last year.Only last week, Ramdin was confirmed as captain of the West Indies team for the Test series against New Zealand in the Caribbean starting in early June. A source close to the situation told the T&T Guardian that Ramdin was the automatic choice after Sarwan asked not to be considered for the 2014 season. Ramdin played with the Amazon Warriors last year where he enjoyed a good season both in front and behind the stumps.
According to the source: "Ramdin has been touted as a future leader in West Indies cricket for quite a while. The decision to make him captain of the Guyana Amazon Warriors came before the decision by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) to make him their captain."Last season he had great inputs in our planning and the players all respected his views on the game. He is a student of the game and once who has the ability to get the men to perform and this was the right fit with what the Amazon Warriors want to create as a unit."Ramdin showed great understanding of the individual players during the first season and this is a great plus because having him as captain he can play men to their strengths and get the best of what we have on the team."
Ramdin is one of three T&T players who will captain teams in this year's tournament. There are six franchises with three T&T men in the form of Ramdin (Amazon Warriors), Dwayne Bravo (T&T Red Steel) and Kieron Pollard (Barbados Tridents) taking charge of their respective teams. In related CPL news there is still no news of any of the five available teams getting an owner for the upcoming series. It is understood that the Red Steel would soon join the Amazon Warriors as the only teams that owners. The other four, the defending champions Jamaican Tallawahs, Barbados Tridents, St Lucia Zouks and Antigua Hawksbills are still out on the market for purchase. It is understood that the asking price for the T&T Red Steel is US$2M and this amount has encouraged a group of local businessmen to come together to save the fortunes of the team.
