Josiah Hill reigned supreme in the Boys’ Under-10 Singles category of the RBC Tobago Junior Tennis Championships at Shaw Park, Tobago, on Thursday.
Hill, who first defeated Justin Horsford in the semis the day before, returned to finish the job in the final by whipping Xavier Christian in straight sets, 4-1, 4-1, for the title.
His achievement followed a sweeping victory for Daniel Rahaman in the Boys’ Under-12 Division. However, Rahaman, a comfortable winner over Bjorn Hall in the round of four earlier, was made to work for his silverware against Yeshowah Smith. Rahaman first battled to a 5-3 victory in the first set before sealing the win 4-1 in the second.
Meanwhile, Nicholas Ready, who showed good form throughout the tournament, unsurprisingly claimed the Boys’ Under-14 crown by beating Jace Quashie in the final.
However, he had to come from behind as Quashie shocked him in the first set 6-4. Ready stormed back in the following set 7-5 to level the scores and triumphed in the play-offs 10-1 for the title.
Ready later combined with his sister Charlotte Ready in the Mixed Doubles by beating the pair of Luca Denoon and Nykala Romeo in the final 4-1, 4-1.
Denoon, though, would not be denied of a title and his combination with Quashie in the Boys’ Doubles reaped dividends as they defeated the team of Adrian Jacob and Nicholas Ready in the final.
And like Ready (Nicholas), Hill got his second title of the tournament when he paired with Jaysean Wells to clobber Horsford and Christian 4-2, 4-2.
