Ministry of Trade and Industry Paula Gopee-Scoon yesterday commended Electrical Industries Group (EIG) on its significant expansion over the years and for striving to diversify its product offerings and processes.
She also noted the company’s interest in expanding into new markets and its eagerness for further investment and reaffirmed the Government’s support to facilitate the growth and development of local businesses.
Gopee-Scoon did so as she toured the manufacturing facilities of EIG at Century Drive, Macoya and its cable plant facility in Arima yesterday.
In a news release yesterday, the ministry said the tour sought to provide the Minister with an overview of the contributions of EIG to the economy and to highlight its role in manufacturing and generating foreign exchange.
Additionally, the tour aimed to deepen collaboration between the Ministry of Trade and Industry and EIG, as the company seeks to explore opportunities for further growth, investment, and partnership that will be mutually beneficial both to industry and society as a whole.
EIG is a premier producer of electrical cables, plastics for construction, power solutions and packaging materials, with over 90 years of combined manufacturing experience. EIG currently manages two subsidiaries in Barbados and Jamaica, and exports to 17 territories spanning the Caribbean, Central, and South America.
During the tour of the plastics plant facility located in Macoya, the minister observed the operations of the industrial scale plastics division where PVC, pipes, fittings, and plastic for construction and industrial packaging are manufactured. This was followed by a tour of the cable manufacturing facilities at Arima where domestic and armoured cables are produced with 99.99 per cent pure copper.
The minister was accompanied on the tour by the organisation’s senior executives, including EIG founder and chairman Dave Ramkissoon, the group’s executive vice president sales and marketing, Paul Kublalsingh, deputy CEO Justine Ramkissoon, group export manager, Sallyann Goolcharan.
