I must say well done to the few religious leaders who represent their organisations when it comes to the affairs of our country.
It is important for all of them to note that they too have a vital role to play in this nation going forward.
There are many, many religious organisations in T&T and, in my opinion, a greater contribution from them is necessary.
Now this is not criticising anyone but simply appealing to all to step up and be counted.
Our religious organisations must understand that their function goes further than just offering spiritual advice to the citizenry and words of comfort when it is necessary.
They have other roles such as speaking out against the ills that abound. They must be a voice for those who cannot cry out.
Wrong must not be allowed to persist without something being said and done by them.
The religious leaders, with their organisations, can also provide refuge for the hurting, lonely, destitute and those who need a friendly hand.
It is a responsibility that all God fearing people ought to have always on their agenda, especially with the present recession and economic downturn.
Finally, they must be advisers to our leaders and politicians, adding positivity and coming up with solutions to the problems that confront us.
I believe the worse thing our spiritual leaders can do is stay on the sidelines and be critical.
They need to get into the arena and work with the leadership to bring about change.
Religious leaders and their organisations need to be more actively involved in the affairs of the land, not just on controversial matters.
We need your contribution.
