A Valencia man was remanded in custody when he appeared before a court master for the murder of Cpl Marlone Mitchell.
Anthony Hopkins, 21, who has addresses in Couva and Valencia, appeared before High Court Master Shabaana Shah in the South B Court yesterday, accused of murdering Mitchell outside Lolita Bar, Southern Main Road, Mc Bean Village, Couva, last Friday. Attorney Taradath Singh represented him at the hearing.
Shah adjourned the matter to July 22.
Mitchell was off duty and liming with friends at the bar at 12.55 am, when he became involved in an argument with another man which escalated into a physical confrontation, which resulted in Michell suffering a fatal gunshot wound. The suspect later went to the Freeport Police Station with an attorney and surrendered.
Following an investigation by the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region Three, Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Joan Honore-Paul gave the directive to charge Hopkins with murder.
