The Princes Town couple, found dead by their nine-year-old daughter, died from hanging.
This was confirmed after an autopsy was done on the bodies of Steve Jugmohan, 40 and Sharline Ramkissoon, 38, at the Forensic Science Centre in St James.
Police have now officially ruled their deaths as suicides. The girl found her mother’s body on the ground and her father’s body hanging in the bathroom.
The child alerted her aunt, who lives upstairs the house. The couple recorded a video and wrote a letter which they left for their children and other relatives, indicating what they were going to do.
They asked their family members to care for their children. The couple also has a five-year-old son. It is believed that they were having financial issues.
Since the incident, the girl has been staying with Ramkissoon’s mother while the boy remained with Jugmohan’s family.
Jugmohan had another child, a 16-year-old girl, while Ramkissoon had two other sons, ages 17 and 15, who live in the USA with their father.
In a telephone interview yesterday, Ramkissoon’s mother Rena said her daughter’s funeral will likely take place on Sunday at her (Rena) home at St John’s Village, San Fernando.
Ramkissoon said they have not had any discussion’s with Jugmohan’s family about his funeral. |
She added, “My daughter never married to the guy so I doing like it’s a wedding for my daughter That’s my last and that’s my joy.”
If Jugmohan’s funeral is held on the same day, she said, she has no problem with the hearses meeting at a certain point to proceed to the Shore of Peace at Mosquito Creek.
Noting that her daughter was of the Hindu faith, she said they intend to have a tassa group perform during the funeral.
She said Ramkissoon’s sons are expected to arrive in the country on Saturday, which is why the funeral is being planned for Sunday. Rena’s other daughter, who lives abroad, is also flying in for the funeral.
However, she said the details of the funeral are still being arranged. Meanwhile, attempts to reach Jugmohan’s sister on her cellphone were unsuccessful.
