The father of a seven-year-old boy has called for a fair and thorough investigation after his son was injured in a road accident allegedly involving a police officer.
The father said the incident left his son, Rahim, severely injured.
Footage shared with Guardian Media showed the child trying to cross the Main Road in Hope, Tobago last Thursday.
In the video, the seven-year-old boy could be seen looking left and right before walking across the road to meet his mother but was hit and flung several feet into the air by a vehicle which appeared to be coming at a speed.
His father, Sean Lewis, has since appealed to the Professional Standards Bureau (PSB) in Trinidad to intervene and ensure the investigation remained unbiased.
“I am not here looking for a handout. I just want a fair hearing for the youth. I understand accidents do happen and yes people have a lot to say but I just want a fair hearing,” he said.
Rahim remains warded at the Scarborough General Hospital where he is expected to undergo facial reconstruction, and hand, back and head surgeries when the swelling subsides.
Head of Tobago Police Division Collis Hazel was contacted for comment. However, he would only confirm that the matter was being investigated.
