A 21-year-old man from Chaguanas died on Sunday after he got into difficulty while swimming at Las Cuevas Bay.
Police said Jerron Elder of Lendore Village was pronounced dead at hospital after being pulled out of the sea.
A police report stated that around 2.30 pm, Elder and his friend were both bathing in the waters off the far west end of Las Cuevas Bay, when strong undercurrents pulled them out into the deep.
Elder’s friend managed to swim to safety, however, Elder got into difficulties and went under the waters.
He resurfaced a few minutes later and was rescued and brought to shore by his friend.
Elder was taken by ambulance to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, but was pronounced dead. —Rhondor Dowlat
