Five men were arrested and quantities of marijuana seized, during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the La Romaine district, on Saturday morning.
According to police reports, officers of the Southern Division Task Force were conducting an exercise around 5:35 am on Saturday 3rd October 2020, along the South Trunk Road, La Romaine.
During the exercise, officers had cause to stop and search a silver Toyota Corolla motor vehicle with three male occupants.
The search resulted in officers finding 7.2 kilogrammes of marijuana, which has an estimated street value of $72,000.
The three suspects were arrested in connection with the find: a 32-year-old and a 24-year-old, both of Tunapuna; and a 23-year-old of San Juan.
During the same exercise, officers had cause to stop and search a white Nissan AD Wagon with two male occupants a few minutes later.
That search resulted in officers finding three packets containing 3.2 kilogrammes of marijuana. The drug has an estimated street value of $32,000.
The two suspects—a 22-year-old of Chickland, and a 21-year-old of San Fernando—were arrested in connection with the find.
Investigations are ongoing.
