A Mayaro fisherman is dead after being stabbed with a knife by a woman after he reportedly hit a 16-year-old girl during an argument on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Wint Gabriel, 35, of Plaisance Road, Mayaro.
Police said around 2.40 pm on Sunday, Gabriel went to the woman’s house located close by.
He got into an argument with the woman’s daughter, aged 16, following which he began hitting her.
Police said the woman, who is closely related to Gabriel, intervened.
She pulled out a kitchen knife and stabbed Gabriel once on the upper left side of his chest. He started to drift and then collapsed into a banana patch nearby.
The woman and the teenager called the Mayaro police and a team of officers including Inspector Vekash Ramkissoon, Sgt Naim Mohammed and Sgt Neil Narine responded.
They arrested her and seized the murder weapon.
An autopsy will be done on Tuesday.
