Police are searching for two men who managed to escape from officers on a motorbike after curfew began on Monday.
According to a police report, around 9 pm, during a roadblock exercise, the officers saw a motorbike with two men on it in the vicinity of Deonarine Junction, Couva.
The bike had no registration and its headlights were not switched on.
Officers attempted to intercept the bike but the rider manoeuvred and sped off.
The passenger was seen jumping off the bike and running along the Southern Main Road into some bushes.
The officers continued their pursuit of the motorcyclist, and the vehicle came into contact with the front left side bumper of the marked police vehicle causing damages.
When the officers came to a stop and exited their vehicle they saw the motorcyclist pulling out a firearm.
In keeping with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service use of force policy, the officers shot at the motorcyclist, however, he sped off. The officers gave chase but the suspect was able to escape.
Meanwhile, the police service revealed on Tuesday that 12 people were arrested for breach of curfew hours bringing the total count to 588.
Eighteen people were arrested for breach of the Public Health Regulations bringing the total to 1,038. A total of 89 face mask tickets were also issued bringing the overall total to 12,252.
There were 478 patrols and 131 roadblocks were conducted.
