A 39-year-old man from the Beetham was fatally shot by police on Wednesday night.
According to a police report, the man pointed a rifle at patrolling police officers.
The report stated that at about 10 pm, officers of the Inter Agency Task Force were on patrol near the Beetham Gardens Child Care Centre, when they saw a man standing there.
The officers approached the man to speak with him but instead of cooperating with the officers, he pulled out a rifle and pointed it at them.
The police subsequently opened fire, shooting him multiple times.
The man was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The man has since been identified as Sydney Saroop.
The loaded rifle was seized by police officers on the scene.
