A Diego Martin man was arrested during yesterday’s Eid celebrations at a mosque after he was held with a gun and a quantity of ammunition as he attended the religious festival.
The 28-year-old of Cuthbert Circular, Four Roads – was held during an anti-crime exercise which was carried out between 12 noon and 4 pm.
Acting on information, officers from the Western Division Task Force led by Snr Supt Garvin Henry, went to the mosque at Wilson Road, Diego Martin – and observed a group of men standing in the south side of the building.
Upon seeing the police, it was reported that one man took off running towards a dirt track on the eastern side.
It is alleged that during the chase, the suspect reportedly threw what appeared to be a firearm, in some bushes.
Officers were able to apprehend the suspect and following an extensive search of the area, lawmen reportedly recovered a Glock 17 pistol equipped with an automatic firing selector and loaded with seventeen 17 rounds of 9 mm ammunition.
