The Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) has temporarily closed it’s Siparia office after an employee was exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19.
In the press statement, the EBC stated that the staff has been advised to self quarantine at home after after a secondary exposure to the virus.
The EBC stated, “The temporary closure of this Office has become necessary in the interest of public health and safety as the EBC’s staff assigned to this Registration Area Office has been advised by the County Medical Officer of Health for the County of St Patrick to self-quarantine at home owing to secondary exposure to the COVID-19 virus.”
The EBC stated the the public will be advised of its re-opening in a subsequent release and apologised for the inconvenience.
“Since the first presentation of COVID-19 in Trinidad and Tobago, the EBC has implemented its mitigation measures in keeping with Ministry of Health’s issued protocols to safeguard the interest of its staff and the public.”
The EBC further advised that it remains resolute in its commitment to all its stakeholders in the fight against the spread of this virus.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Roshan Parasram at a ministry of Health press conference yesterdayy predicted a spike in cases.
“In light of the recent movement of individuals and somewhat non-adherence to the public health guidelines, we expect to see an increase in the number of cases in the next few days to weeks,” he said.
