In the 11 days to the general election, PNM supporters have to convert the unconverted and inform the uninformed, Tobago East candidate Ayana Webster-Roy told the PNM St James Women’s Platform last night.
She said that too many of her sisters are wondering if the PNM is the right choice.
“So my PNM sisters we have to use our power of influence for good and in these 11 days we have to convert the unconverted and inform the uninformed and we include who needs including to make the right choice - the PNM’s the right choice,” she said.
Also addressing the meeting, Arouca/Maloney candidate Camille Robinson-Regis pointed to the number of female People’s Partnership (PP) and UNC officials and MPs who she said had been dismissed, dropped or ignored by UNC leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar over recent years up to recently.
PNM Fyzabad candidate Solange De Souza.
She described Persad- Bissessar is a “wrecking ball against women” who “can’t handle intelligent women”.
St Anns East candidate Nyan Gadsby-Dolly said women must think long and hard on their voting choices on August 10 since not because a party is led by a woman it means that party is in the best interest of women.
The PNM has 14 female candidates.
She said in the same way that women make choices on who they bring into their bedroom and take into their confidence, they should also be careful in their voting choice.
“Not all parties are the same,” Gadsby-Dolly said
She said PNM leader Dr Keith Rowley had never undercut women.
PNM St Augustine candidate Renuka Sagramsingh-Sookal.
Fyzabad candidate Solange De Souza said women must vote to protect what is theirs and choose a committed party and committed leader like the PNM’s.
She shared how her own mother battled domestic violence, beaten and pounded by her stepfather and how they lost their house to fire when she was six. But she said women are strong.
Fiery St Augustine candidate Renuka Sagramsingh-Sooklal spoke of how she was taunted by a man for contesting for the PNM but she said she turned the other cheek. She called for voters to spurn those “who don’t know the difference between blank and black…and ensure they never see the corridors of power again.”
PNM Arima candidate Pennelope Beckles-Robinson.
“If ever T&T needed a tried trusted and competent leader, this man, Keith Rowley is the right choice! A leader that walks the talk! This election is about leadership – not about selling people dreams!”
Arima candidate Penny Beckles said Rowley’s leadership had facilitated the appointment of female leaders in T&T, including the first female President and female presiding officers in Parliament. She lauded his leadership in the COVID pandemic.
Beckles said the country has had the opportunity to compare UNC’s Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Rowley who’d governed T&T under extremely difficult conditions and the choice could only be Rowley.
