A Morne Diablo fisherman who was shot several times yesterday during an altercation died while being transported for medical care. The incident followed an altercation on Friday night.
Tyrell (Koke Ram) Karim, 44, was being transported in his brother’s Mazda 323 motorcar when he died.
Karim, described as a “quiet person who also enjoyed gardening,” was shot by a 17-year-old boy who also lived in the village.
Police report states that around 9.30 am, they received a report that the boy was at Lamy Trace, Morne Diablo, when he was attacked and chopped by a neighbour known to him.
The boy reportedly went into the bushes at the back of the house, returned with a firearm, and fired several shots, wounding Karim.
At the scene, Penal police officers pulled caution tape over the vehicle that relatives confirmed was his brother’s motorcar. The young woman said she last saw Karim on Friday night when he returned from fishing. She said she did not know the nature of the incident or what caused the shooting. She said Karim was the fourth of nine children and the first to die in a violent attack. She said Karim was the father of two young children. Karim’s assailant is still on the run.
In an unrelated incident another man known as “Porky” of Colley Street, in Fyzabad, was killed. (Innis Francis)
