Disaster Management Units (DMUs) from several Regional Corporations have reported flooding, landslides and even damage to homes as a result of today’s heavy rainfall and gusty winds.
An advisory from the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government indicates that much of the activity occurred in the Diego Martin, San Juan/Laventille and Siparia Regions.
The DMUs reported several affected areas:
● Landslide at Petit Valley
● Flooding along Morne Coco Road around St. Finbars & Goodwood Heights
● Flooding along Diego Martin Main Road near Ann Avenue
● Flooding along Diego Martin Highway, North bound lane before Crystal Stream
● Flooding along Eastern Main Road, Laventille
● Flooding along Eastern Main Road, Champs Fleurs
● Two collapsed houses in the Siparia Region
The Ministry says there also have been reports of some flash flooding in other Regions and assures that the landslide has been resolved. In addition, other reported incidents are being assessed or monitored.
Citizens are reminded to contact their respective Municipal Corporations for sandbags or relief assistance following instances of flooding, fallen trees, landslips, and other disasters.
