The homicide investigations into the brutal murder of local playwright and award-winning producer, director and actor Raymond Choo Kong took a twist Tuesday afternoon following new information reaching police.
Police say that instead of a robbery, they now believe that it may be a crime of passion.
Upon sensitive information reaching officers, police strongly believe that Choo Kong, 69, who was stabbed eight times could have known his attacker on a personal/intimate basis.
"We are looking at it as a jilted lover-type thing, " a police source said.
This is just, however, the latest theory by investigating officers as they also received information that Choo Kong was a victim of robbery one week ago and it was possible that there was a link to that incident where he identified one of the suspects who robbed him.
However police said they were still trying to confirm whether or not Choo Kong was robbed while at a traffic light intersection.
The third theory is that Choo Kong was killed during a home invasion gone awry.
However, police said there weren't enough supporting evidence which suggests that it was a random robbery.
Police said based on the evidence they gathered so far at his home in Arima was that only a gold ring, his wallet and a cellphone was taken.
They believe that it was taken from on his person and added that if robbery was the definite motive other valuables in the house would have been taken, which police said, they were not.
Investigators are expected to view CCTV footage captured close to his home at Green Street for further clues.
