MP for Mayaro Rushton Paray is warning motorists not to traverse the Manzanilla Main Road (Coconuts) just yet.
In a Facebook post, Paray said the road was not open to all traffic, but only for access by property owners.
He said the northern leg of the bypass was completed, but there is about a half-mile of surface material which will be laid on the southern leg today.
Workers are also laying down concrete barriers and placing warning signs and reflectors to guide drivers.
"I encourage the motoring public to refrain from using the bypass until all the works have been completed," Paray said. "This is for your own safety. Allow the contractor to complete their work today."
Minister of Works Rohan Sinanan has promised the by-pass road should be completed in time for the opening of the school term on Tuesday.
The road collapsed after heavy flooding in the area in November.
