Founder of Mario’s Pizzeria, Richard Harford, passed away yesterday at the age of 79 at his home. The businessman was affectionately known as “Big Slice”.
In a statement on its Facebook page yesterday, Mario’s Pizza said Harford “embodied greatness in every aspect of his character. Beyond being Mario’s Pizzeria’s founder, he was a visionary and a source of inspiration in Trinidad and Tobago’s culinary scene.
“His remarkable persona was complemented by his immense generosity, unwavering integrity, and deep kindness.”
Mario’s hailed Harford as “more than just the founder of Mario’s Pizzeria.”
It said he was a visionary, a beacon of inspiration, and a pillar of strength in T&T’s culinary landscape.
“His larger-than-life persona was matched only by his boundless generosity, unwavering integrity, and profound kindness,” the statement added.
The post also pointed to Harford's "humble" transformation of an ice cream shop into the nation’s first local pizza parlour, "reshaping the culinary landscape of our country."
The statement added, "We do not mourn the loss of a mere entrepreneur; we celebrate the lasting legacy of a visionary leader, a beloved mentor, a cherished friend, and a devoted father. Richard Harford’s contributions to our culinary heritage and his profound impact on our lives will forever be remembered. Farewell, dear friend; your spirit lives on in every slice of Mario’s pizza, serving as a testament to your enduring legacy of excellence and compassion."
