From Cambridge Analytica (CA) to hospital and carpark corruption, Opposition Member of Parliament Dr Roodal Moonilal came out swinging last night at the UNC’s Monday Night Forum.
Addressing supporters in Gopaul Lands, Marabella, Moonilal sent out a message to Christopher Wylie, the author of the controversial book Mindf*** which contains details of data collection services which the CA did in 2013 for the People’s Partnership government.
Moonilal called on Wylie to contact Police Commissioner Gary Griffith as he denied again that the party ever did business with Wylie or CA.
Less than a week ago, National Security Minister Stuart Young called for a criminal investigation into Wylie’s claims.
But Moonilal was adamant that the party’s hands were clean, saying, “Let me say categorically that the UNC and the PP government had absolutely nothing to do with Cambridge Analytica, we had no contact, no invoice, no documents, no receipt, no love letters, nothing!”
He also called for an investigation into the selection of two PNM party “friends” as subcontractors in the Point Fortin Hospital project.
Moonilal alleges that jobs are being given to relatives of sitting members of the San Fernando City Corporation while “normal” employees are being sent home.
“A number of workers have been sent home because the corporation claimed it has no funds. But these new employees include the children of two of these officials. Those two children are attending university full time, are hardly ever seen in the corporation, but are receiving full pay.”
He also raised questions about the carpark built by the corporation, which he claims was rented out to a friend of the administration for $10,000 a month.
“By my very rough calculations, the income from that car park is over $100,000 per month, and their friend is paying the Corporation $10,000 per month, ask them who is benefitting from the Corporation’s huge investment? Certainly not the people of San Fernando, or the public.” - Sharlene Rampersad
