According to the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM), a fallen tree is blocking both lanes of North Coast Road in the vicinity of the Maracas Lookout.
In an ODPM’s Public Alert Notification System alert, they said, “Commuters are advised to use any available alternative routes. First responders are aware and are mobilising to remove the debris.”
Over the last day, periods of heavy rainfall, accompanied by wind gusts up to 45 KM/H, have been recorded across Trinidad and Tobago.
Street flooding has also been reported along various areas of the East-West Corridor, namely within Port of Spain and the Eastern Main Road, as well as in parts of Couva in Central Trinidad.
While no alerts, watches, or warnings have been issued by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS), in all their forecasts issued over the last 48 hours, the Met Office has cautioned, “In the vicinity of heavy showers or thunderstorms, expect gusty winds, street and of flash flooding.”
Drier weather is now forecast for the country over the next few days. The TTMS latest weather forecast states, “Fair to partly cloudy at times with a few lingering isolated showers in confined areas,” for tonight. Their forecast for tomorrow (Thursday) calls for “Mostly fair and breezy. These conditions would be interrupted at times by light to moderate showers, mostly near hilly areas.”
