A shooting in Diego Martin on Friday morning led to the death of one man. Police said Akil Walters also known as ‘Pappy’ was talking with friends on Blue Basin Road, at around 10.45 am when a brown Hyundai Creta drove near them from Bridge Road. A gunman got out of the car and shot Walters several times before getting back in the car and driving off.
Walters’ friends who were nearby ran for cover on seeing the gunman but returned shortly after where they saw him bleeding in a nearby drain. The friends pulled Walters from the drain and carried him to a nearby house where he was covered in a sheet by his mother.
Western Division police were called in and found Walters’ body still covered in the sheet at the house. A district medical officer called in and declared Walters dead. Investigators found 14 spent shells at the scene and believe the car used by the killer bore false registration plates. Police from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region I are continuing enquiries.
