A businessman who spends his weekends helping residents of Beetham, Sea Lots and Laventille, was among those honoured by the San Fernando City Corporation over the weekend.
Mayor of San Fernando Junia Regrello heaped praises on Chief Executive Officer of Pennywise Cosmetics Limited Dalvi Paladee during the Civic Reception and Awards Function held at City Hall auditorium on Friday night.
Delivering greetings, Regrello called on citizens to emulate the awardees.
Speaking about Paladee, Regrello said: “He does so much. On a Sunday when we relaxing, he goes to Beetham and Sea Lots, Laventille. He packs up containers and sends them to St Vincent. There is no fanfare, just very discreetly, he does it.”
Paladee has also been instrumental in rebuilding houses for poor people across the country.
In the area of sport, the mayor also gave an award to former national footballer Jan Steadman who played at both professional and international levels as a defender.
Sean Ramsey and Gregory Ballantyne received awards for culture while Usular de Castro received an award for community service.
In delivering remarks, Paladee called on citizens to give back to their community. Referring to T&T as their Motherland, Paladee said: “We could share a smile, put our hands in pockets, do more and try our best not to set a blind eye. Look around and see how we can touch lives. Any small act of service will be appreciated,” he added.
He also said T&T was literally bleeding because of crime.
“If everyone could just spend a little more time with love. Family is important but the motherland is important too. When I used to sell pins, I used to sell them with love,” he recalled.
Paladee lamented losing a sister to crime.
“This opportunity makes us reflect on why we are really here. God gave us the chance to share the love. That is the simple message we have,” he added.
Also receiving awards for Long Service was daily rated worker Michael Elliot and Jacinta Baksh, while Gerard Ramarack and Imtiaz Hosein received appreciation awards.
