A pensioner was found murdered at his San Fernando home yesterday hours after he went to the bank.
Police believe Kelvin Chan was attacked and robbed of his money when he returned home.
Chan was last seen alive around 9 am as he was leaving his home at the corner of Cipero and Leotaud Streets to go to the bank. Government-issued pension cheques are usually changed at commercial banks on the first working day of each month.
Police said Chan’s friend discovered his body around 12.45 pm. When he entered Chan’s yard, he found the body on the ground covered with the sheet.
Police said there were wounds to the face and head.
Investigators found no money in Chan’s possession or his home.
Chan lived upstairs in the house while his older brother lived downstairs.
An autopsy is expected to be done at the Forensic Science Centre, Port-of-Spain, next week pending a COVID-19 test.
Officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region 3 are investigating.
