Homicide investigators believe they have identified possible persons of interest in the murder of private contractor Andy Daniel.
Daniel, 54, was murdered on November 11, 2023, on the Uriah Butler Highway, near the Caroni Overpass. He worked installing security cameras.
Police sources said several people who were “persons of interest” in Daniel’s murder were recently identified. One source noted that various technological tools, including CCTV footage, GPS tracking, eyewitnesses and cell phone data on the day of the murder, were utilised to narrow down the pool of people. The persons identified also had affiliations with the Strategic Services Agency, Guardian Media was told.
However, the source insisted that “a lot of work” was still expected to be done, as detectives were still in the process of building their case.
Persons of interest are people who are identified as having information about a crime, as opposed to suspects who are believed to be the actual perpetrators of a crime.
Sources also disclosed that a black Nissan X-Trail seen in video footage of the attack on Daniel was believed to be the getaway vehicle used by the killers. The vehicle was last seen in Aranguez before vanishing from the sight of police.
Investigators currently probing the operations of the SSA are pursuing whether its agents may be linked in some way to Daniel’s murder.
