Municipal Police officers in Point Fortin have seized $3.5 million worth of marijuana and a firearm and ammunition. The items were seized early yesterday.
Seven suspects were arrested in connection with the seizures.
The TTPS said around 9.33 am, acting Cpl Persad and Point Fortin Municipal Police officers saw the driver of a blue Toyota Fielder wagon driving dangerously while overtaking traffic along the Southern Main Road.
The police pursued the vehicle, which they later stopped near the Guapo landfill.
When the officers searched the vehicle, in the presence of two occupants, they found six crocus bags containing a total of 270 blocks of marijuana.
A 40-year-old taxi driver and a 41-year-old farmer were arrested.
Also, at 2 am yesterday, Persad and Point Fortin Municipal Police officers saw a blue Ford Ranger near the Dunlop Roundabout, Point Fortin. They attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver tried to evade them. However, the vehicle was intercepted a short distance away.
When the officers searched the vehicle, they found a revolver with six rounds of .38 ammunition.
Five suspects, four men from Marabella aged 35 to 41, and a 38- year-old man from San Fernando, were arrested.
Meanwhile, Central Division officers and soldiers searched a house at Singh Avenue, Factory Road, Chaguanas, and found two hydroponic tents.
Upon further examination, they also found 68 marijuana plants, 48 seedlings, fertilisers, garden tools, and a professional hydroponic system, which included lights and fans.
One man was detained.
