Police officer's brother shot dead in bar robbery

The broth­er of a po­lice of­fi­cer was killed and an­oth­er in­jured dur­ing a rob­bery at a bar in Gas­par­il­lo on Mon­day night just as it was about to be closed.

He has been iden­ti­fied as Kris­t­ian Sir­jus­ingh, 28, of 229 Hap­py Hill, Bonne Aven­ture. He was a law clerk em­ployed at Richard Sir­joo law firm in Ch­agua­nas.

In an im­me­di­ate re­sponse Sir­joo took to his Face­book page and wrote that he is in shock and dis­be­lief.

The in­jured per­son is said to be 28 years and al­so from Bonne Aven­ture.

The in­ci­dent oc­curred at about 8.30 pm at Michelle's Bar.

Po­lice said the bar ten­der who is a Do­mini­can na­tion­al when three men walked in and one if them or­dered a beer. The bar ten­der sold it to him and then he asked if the gam­bling ma­chines were work­ing. That was when the bar ten­der said it weren't work­ing and that the bar was now closed.

The sus­pect then pulled out a gun and an­nounced a hold up. Sev­er­al pa­trons of the bar who were lim­ing out­side the bar and in­side were then robbed of cash, jew­ellery, cell phones and oth­er valu­ables.

As the men were leav­ing the com­pound the armed man opened fire in the di­rec­tion of Sir­jus­ingh and the oth­er vic­tim. Sir­jus­ingh died on the scene.

Po­lice said a 24-year-old Venezue­lan na­tion­al bar­tender and the 59-year-old pro­pri­etor was al­so present dur­ing the rob­bery.

A team of po­lice of­fi­cers re­spond­ed and the wound­ed man, who was shot in the right hand was tak­en to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal where he was treat­ed and ward­ed in a sta­ble con­di­tion.

Sir­jus­ingh's body was viewed by the Dis­trict Med­ical Of­fi­cer and re­moved to the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre in St James where an au­top­sy will be con­duct­ed on Tues­day.

Po­lice re­cov­ered four 9mm spent shells on the scene.
