President Christine Kangaloo has called on Hindu youths to lead the way when it comes to saving and preserving the Earth.
She was at the time delivering the feature address at Divali Nagar celebrations on Wednesday night. The President spoke on Daarti Maata (Mother Earth), this year’s theme for the Nagar. She said, “My hope and my prayer are that our Hindu community in T&T, particularly our young Hindu men and women will lead the entire country and then the entire world in joining hands and working together to ensure that we’re respecting and honouring Mother Earth.”
President Kangaloo pledged the support of the Office of the President to the National Council for Indian Culture (NCIC) and to the Hindu community on educating all, especially youth on the importance of preserving the Earth.
She said “Divali Nagar 2023 with its theme of Daarti Maata is, I believe, the perfect occasion for the entire community to commit to doing so.”
She continued, “Humanity needs to understand that the Earth is not just a place for us to live and die, it is the source of our existence and it is the promised inheritance of our young people. Here in T&T we need to take up the mantle of our collective responsibility to Mother Earth and to the environment, not tomorrow, not ten years from now but today.”
