A recount for the San Fernando West seat will take place in less than two hours at the office of the Returning Officer at Cipero Street, San Fernando.
The request was made by United National Congress candidate Sean Sobers.
Following the results of the general elections in favour of the People`s National Movement, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar indicated she would be requesting recounts for three marginal constituencies.
A notice by Returning Officer Eddison Ramdeen to candidates who contested that seat stated, “Kindly be informed that the candidate for the United National Congress (UNC) has requested a general final count of the votes cast in all polling stations and also a general finals count of polling cards for all stations in the San Fernando West Constituency.”
He indicated that the recount will take place at 3 pm. At his campaign office on Monday night, Sobers congratulated his opponent PNM´s Faris Al-Rawi.
The results at that time showed was 7309 in Al Rawi´s favour while Sobers got 5706.
He thanked his campaign team for their hard work and dedication during the campaign.
“We gave it a clean fight which I would like to demonstrate to the rest of Trinidad and Tobago, which is how all campaigns should be run. We dropped the margin from 2015.
We will continue to work in the constituency of San Fernando West.
I congratulate the incumbent,” said Sobers. Three other candidates Valmiki Ramsingh of The National Party, Nikoli Edwards of the Progressive Party and Benison Jagessar of the Progressive Empowerment Party also contested the seat.
