The son of deceased reputed gang leader Selwyn "Robocop" Alexis, Kerron Alexis, and two others, were shot and wounded yesterday afternoon, allegedly by police officers.
A police report stated that at about 2.15 pm, PC Baptiste, PC Gooding, PC Messiah and PC Mohammed were on enquiries in Enterprise, Chaguanas, when they saw a heavily tinted white Toyota Axio proceeding out of Kenny Cyrus Street and turning north onto the Southern Main Road.
PC Gooding allegedly had a conversation with the other officers and engaged the swivel lights and sirene in an attempt to stop the vehicle.
Police said the driver turned onto Dass Branch Trace and stopped. The officers announced their presence. The driver, who was later identified as Alexis, lowered the driver window. Two other occupants were seated in the rear of the vehicle.
PC Gooding reported that whilst he was interviewing Alexis, he allegedly lowered in his seat and raised a gun.
PC Gooding, the police report stated, shouted "gun, gun", and believing his life was in imminant danger, discharged several rounds from his firearm.
The officers took the occupants out of the vehicle and rendered aid to the three injured men, before taking them to the Chaguanas Health Facility.
However, speaking with the Guardian Media at the scene, relatives of Alexis claimed there were eyewitnesses who alleged the three men were shot at and that there was no alleged threats against the police.
Police officers who were at the scene reportedly took the DVRs from three houses to view the surveillance footage, as an official investigation will now be launched.
For several years, Alexis has alleged police brutality and threats against him and has lodged several reports to the Police Complaints Authority, headed by David West.
Alexis was being treated at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mount Hope last night.
The other occupants of the vehicle were also treated for injuries.
Investigations are continuing.
