A 17-year-old schoolboy was shot four times near his home in New Grant last night. The Form Five student of Tableland Secondary School is warded in a stable condition at the San Fernando General Hospital.
Police said around 9.15 pm the teenager was standing at the entrance of Dion's Mini Mart at Sixth Company Circular Road when a man wearing a face mask and dark clothing came out of a vehicle, approached the teenager and fired several shots at him.
The boy tried to run but he was shot in his his pelvic region, right knee and left thigh. He also suffered a laceration approximately 8 cm long and 1 cm wide to the right jaw. The suspect escaped in the same vehicle he arrived in.
The teenager's father took him to the Princes Town Health Facility where he was treated and transferred to the San Fernando hospital.
Investigators recovered six spent shells and one projectile at the scene. The motive is still unknown, police said. Ag Cpl Khan of the Princes Town Police Station is investigating.
