A police report said around 4:30 pm Steven along with a group of friends went swimming in the waters off Damian’s Bay, Paria Main Road, Blanchisseuse. Whilst approximately 15 metres out at sea, Steven reportedly encountered rough waters and went under and disappeared.
His friends made attempts to locate and assist him, however, he was not found.
When contacted Steven’s friend Antonio Trim, who was part of the group liming he was with, declined to comment and ended the call abruptly.
PC Guerra and PC Nedd-Bruce were present at the scene when search efforts were made for Steven. The Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard was contacted and has been carrying out searches for the 25-year-old up to yesterday. Up to late last evening he had not been found.
On Saturday the T&T Meteorological Service issued a Yellow Level Hazardous Seas Alert in the northern and north-eastern coastal areas of Trinidad and Tobago.
That alert has been forecast to stay in effect until Tuesday 21. It advised long period swells would persist which would mainly affect the northern coastal areas of Trinidad and Tobago.
The warning noted that these swells can affect the highlighted coastal areas in the form of occasional battering waves, especially during high tides. Moderate low-level winds can also result in generally choppy seas.
All marine interests have been asked to monitor sea conditions and exercise caution.
When contacted, Steven’s friend Antonio Trim, who was part of the group liming with Steven, declined to comment and ended the call abruptly.
PC Nedd-Bruce is continuing enquiries.
