There are communities in Central and South Trinidad that have not received water from the Water and Sewage Authority for as long as a month.
This is according to Member of Parliament for Oropouche West, Davendranath Tancoo MP, who said his office is inundated with calls from persons who are in need of water.
In a press release, MP Tancoo said residents in Oropouche West, Siparia, Fyzabad, and Oropouche East are in a serious water crisis. He also revealed that homeowners have had to purchase water from private suppliers in order to have a water supply to clean their homes following the recent floods and for everyday use.
The Oropouche West MP said people are fed up with the promises made by the Public Utilities Minister and the Government, and that WASA’s promises are as empty as the tanks of thousands.
Yesterday, WASA announced that customers served by the South Oropouche Booster Station will experience a delay in the scheduled supply due to mechanical problems at the facility.
WASA said the water supply should be restored between the 24th and 28th of December.
