Seven months after Erin taxi driver Anil Maraj went missing, the police have discovered his white Nissan Tiida in east Trinidad.
While Maraj’s whereabouts were still unknown yesterday, his son Josh believes this breakthrough in the case could lead police to his father finally being found. Maraj, 40, left his home in Arena Village around 11 am on March 17 after being hired for a private transportation job. He did not tell his family who hired him or where he was going.
Calls to his cellphone went unanswered when Maraj failed to return home and numerous searches after his disappearance failed to unearth any solid leads.
Loved ones also held several vigils to pray for Maraj’s safe return.
His family initially believed that someone hijacked his car and held him captive.
On his Facebook page yesterday, his son Josh uploaded a video of his father’s car that has since been released to the family. He posted that God did not fail him and that justice would be served. However, Josh again pleaded with people who may have information on his father’s whereabouts to come forward.
“My father is still missing, he hasn’t been found as yet. I’m begging. I’m asking, please talk and say where my father is. It’s not too late to talk and tell us. I wanna have an end to all this tragedy in which my father is missing, it’s seven months and one day today,” he posted.
Josh also thanked the police and was confident that Maraj would be found.
In an interview with Guardian Media, Josh said the police did not give him specific details on where his father’s vehicle was located but all he knew was that it was discovered last week Tuesday. He said relatives collected the car at the police site in Cumuto on October 9.
“It shows that the police doing their job, they reaching somewhere. We hope that we would find daddy now. We have to keep praying and hoping,” Josh said.
Apart from a missing stereo, spare tyre and jack, and a dent to the front left door, Josh said, the car was intact.
Maraj also worked at the Siparia Regional Corporation.
