Police are hoping to recover several auto parts stolen from its fleet of derelict vehicles at the Vehicle Management Company (VMCOTT) yard in San Fernando.
According to a police report, PC Gopaul, who is attached to the Transport and Telcom South Branch at VMCOTT’s Union Hall branch, was the last person to check vehicles stored at the back of the compound on Friday.
When Gopaul checked around 9.30 am on Monday, however, he noticed that coil packs, alternators, batteries, transmissions and other parts were missing from several vehicles. The vehicles are the property of the T&T Police Service.
Gopaul reported the missing items to his seniors and PC Malchan and a team of detectives visited the compound.
Crime scene investigators processed the vehicles and found workable prints. Police are yet to ascertain the value of the missing parts.
In another unrelated incident, a 25-year-old Siparia man escaped a gunman at his home on Monday night.
A report stated that Derelle Jacob was sitting outside his home around 9.45 pm when a white Nissan Tiida stopped on the roadway. He told Siparia police that a man wearing a white hoodie and face mask got out of the car with a gun in his hand. As Jacob saw the gun, he ran into the bushes at the back of his home. The gunman fired two shots but did not hit anyone.
WPC Mohammed and PC Hosein responded to a report of the shooting. As they checked the area, they found one live 9mm round on the ground and one 9mm projectile in a plastic bucket close to where Jacob was sitting when the gunman approached.
Investigators interviewed several people but were yet to arrest anyone up to yesterday.
